The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-2 on Sunday night! The blue and white, playing in the second back-to-back game, certainly impressed! After a bounce-back win yesterday at home, the Leafs kept their momentum going early and really took Philadelphia out of this one rather quickly. The Leafs next game will be on Wednesday as they host the Nashville Predators.

In the opening period of this one, the Toronto Maple Leafs came out flying! After a few good opportunities early on that were denied by Flyers goaltender Carter Hart, the Leafs finally connected on one to take a 1-0 lead midway through the period! A beautiful play by Leafs forward Mitch Marner as he entered the zone set up his linemate Calle Järnkrok for his 9th goal of the year! After the Leafs opened the scoring, the blue and white didn’t stop there. After a few good shifts from both sides, Maple Leafs forward Zach Aston-Reese scored his 4th-goal of the year! A late net front opportunity for Aston-Reese was capitalized as the 28-year-old gave the Leafs a 2-0 lead! However, just after Zach Aston-Reese’s goal, Philadelphia forward Travis Konecny scored! A turnover from Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was picked off by Konecy to slice the Leafs lead to one. The Leafs went into the first intermission leading 2-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers.

In the middle frame of this one, the Maple Leafs kept coming! Despite a pretty back-and-forth opening to the second period, Maple Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins scored his first NHL goal! Timmins picked the puck up at the point and fired a wrister blocker side that went right through Carter Hart! As the Leafs took a 3-1 lead nearly seven minutes into the period, Flyers forward Nick Deslauriers got the orange and black within one! A bad breakout from the Maple Leafs led to an interception by Flyers Patrick Brown, who played a pass to Nick Deslauriers down low. The 31-year-old made no mistake with the opportunity! After the Flyers second goal, both teams started to trade chances again before the Leafs added another! Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren scored his 3rd-goal of the year! A short-handed goal for Liljegren as the 23-year-old fired a shot that slipped through the legs of Flyers goaltender Carter Hart. Just over two minutes after Liljegren’s short-handed goal, Maple Leafs captain John Tavares continued his impressive weekend with another goal! Tavares added his 19th goal of the year after a beautiful feed from Calle Järnkrok in the slot! The Maple Leafs went into the second intermission up 5-2 on the Flyers!

In the final frame of this one, the Maple Leafs didn’t back down! Despite playing in the second game of a back-to-back, when the odds weren’t in the Leafs favor, they continued to battle through! After an early high-sticking penalty was called to Leafs forward Michael Bunting, the Flyers started to push. However, the strong play of Leafs goaltender Matt Murray kept the Leafs 5-2 lead early! After the Leafs killed the Bunting penalty, the Maple Leafs were given a couple of power-play opportunities of their own! On the second power-play chance, Maple Leafs captain John Tavares played a sick pass to Auston Matthews, as he scored his 20th goal of the year! The Maple Leafs took a 6-2 advantage in the third period and never looked back! The Maple Leafs officially defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-2 and now have a 25-9-7 record at the midway point!
