The Royals started their two-game weekend in Glens Falls, NY, where Evan Barratt started the game with a goal just 2:44 seconds into the first period, assisted by Charlie Gerard. Though the Royals scored early, they were met with five unanswered goals by Adirondack until Devon Paliani scored the Royal’s second 17:13 seconds into the third period, assisted by Brendan Hoffmann and Colin Felix. Though the game was a loss for the Royals, they still managed to rack up 51 total shots on goal against goaltender Isaac Poulter.

2/4/2023: Royals vs. Thunder @ Santander Arena in Reading, PA

The Royals returned home on Saturday, February 4th, for their annual “Pink in the Rink” game, seeking revenge for their loss against the Thunder. Charlie Gerard scored first at 9:09 into the first period, assisted by Max Newton and Royal’s captain, Garrett McFadden. The Royals, however, did not stop there as Jacob Gaucher scored an unassisted short-handed goal 16:31 seconds into the first. Goaltender Jake Theut did not see it coming as Gaucher’s goal trickled right passed him, putting the Royals up two until Thunder bounced back with a goal by Shane Weller at 16:58 seconds, assisted by Matt Stief and Xavier Parent. Weller’s goal was all the Thunder could manage as the Royals went on to score four more goals before the night’s end, ending the night with a 6-1 victory over the Thunder.

“Pink in the Rink” night is a special game played each year in the beginning of February by the Reading Royals that honors those who have been affected by Breast Cancer. The team honors those who have battled hard against the illness, allowing them to come down to the ice to be recognized for their battles and have the opportunity to raise money for organizations that research Breast Cancer by shooting a puck toward the goal. This game is played on pink ice, adding to the theme of the night with the players wearing special pink jerseys. This season, the Royals sported a black jersey with pink and white stripes on the sleeves as well as at the base of the jersey. “Reading” is written in white letters diagonally down the front outlined in pink as well as the numbers on the back of the jersey. These jerseys were then auctioned off, with portions of the money earned donated to local charities that center themselves around Breast Cancer.

The Reading Royals will be back in action for their morning game against the Worchester Railers this Tuesday, February 7th, with a 10:30 am start time, so be sure to grab a coffee and make your way to the Santander Arena for more hockey action.
