Prospect Profile: Drew Bavaro

Drew Bavaro was born on June 10, 2000, in Bradenton, Florida. The defenseman’s brother, Vito, was a four-year player at Sacred Heart University as a right-wing at Sacred Heart University from 2016-20. Drew played four seasons at Lawrence Academy Prep School in Massachusetts, where he scored 20 goals and collected 43 assists in 117 total games. Bavaro also played for the Neponset Valley River Rats 16U and 18U teams from 2016-19 and had two teammates who would be future NHL players (Sam Colangelo and Henry Thrun).

Bavaro joined the Wenatchee Wild of the British Columbia Hockey League during the 2019-20 season and registered nine goals and 24 assists in 51 regular season games and contributed one assist in five playoff games. Bavaro was drafted by the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL 145th overall in the 2016 USHL Futures Draft but elected not to join.

Drew Bavaro Commits to Bentley University

Bavaro committed to Bentley University for the 2020-21 season and earned All-Rookie Team honors with two goals and ten assists in 16 games. The next season, the right-shot defenseman scored nine goals with 18 assists in 36 games, which earned him First-Team All-Star. Bavaro transferred to the University of Notre Dame for his junior and senior seasons and contributed 39 points in 72 total games.

The Boston Bruins Sign Drew Bavaro to a One-Year Contract

Although Bavaro went undrafted, the Boston Bruins signed the blue liner to a one-year, $925,000 contract on March 12, 2024, with a salary cap hit of $867,500. Bavaro joined the Providence Bruins and played seven games at the end of the season and projects to begin the season with the AHL team this winter.
