Elliott Groenewold was born on February 4, 2006, in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Groenewold played 43 games for the Bishop’s College School Prep U16 team during the 2021-22 season and contributed 12 goals and 20 assists as a defenseman. Groenewold appeared in 95 total games for the Bishop’s College School’s Varsity team the next season and registered 19 goals and 29 assists.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound blue liner was drafted by the Cape Breton Eagles with the 145th overall pick in the ninth round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft but elected to play in the United States Hockey League after the Omaha Lancers chose Groenewold with the 49th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 USHL Draft. Groenewold played one season with Omaha and totaled five goals and 11 assists in 57 games.

The Boston Bruins Select Elliott Groenewold in the Fourth Round of the 2024 NHL Draft

Groenewold was chosen by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft with the 110th overall pick. The Bruins liked Groenewold’s size and aggressive style, which Elite Prospects pointed out pre-draft with the following assessment:

As the off-puck defender, Groenewold’s high-pace, high-aggression style stands out. He locks down threats around the net, jumps into passing lanes, and diffuses multi-variable situations with ease. When defending the rush, he pivots early and surfs across to force the attacker wide”.

Groenewold has committed to Quinnipiac University for the 2024-25 season and will be teammates with fellow Bruins’ prospect Chris Pelosi (3rd round, 2023).
