Prospect Profile: Jackson Edward

Jackson Edward was born on February 27, 2004, in Newmarket, Ontario. The left-shot defenseman played 25 games for the Richmond Hill Coyotes U15AAA team in the ETAHL during the 2018-19 season and scored 14 goals with 18 assists in 25 games before finishing the year with three games for the U16AAA team. The next season, Edward moved to the York Simcoe Express U16AAA club and played 33 games, registering 12 goals and 18 assists in the regular season and seven points in ten postseason games.

In the 2020 OHL Priority Selection Draft, Edward was drafted 22nd overall by the London Knights, where he would play three seasons. In 178 total games, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound blue liner scored a total of 12 goals with 49 assists and compiled 253 penalty minutes. In 41 playoff games, Edward scored three goals with 14 assists. The edgy defenseman was an assistant captain and one of the top players on the ice for London as they made a run to the Memorial Cup, losing in the final.

Edward was drafted with the 200th pick overall in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins. Elite Prospects described the seventh-round choice as” violent, and he uses that violence to emphatically kill plays at the blue line and end the cycle. If given space while receiving the puck, Edward often makes a positive play. He’ll even draw in forechecking pres- sure by skating towards it or cutting back, then hitting the gas pedal before starting the breakout”. Edward’s offensive game had improved dramatically as well.

Jackson Edward Signs an Entry-Level Contract with the Bruins

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on October 25, 2023, that the team had signed defenseman Jackson Edward to a three-year entry-level contract with an annual NHL cap hit of $860,000. Edward will play with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League during the 2024-25 season as he attempts to make the NHL.
