Jaxon Nelson was born on March 30, 2000, in Magnolia, Minnesota. Nelson played three seasons of high school hockey at Luverne High School and was fifth all-time in Minnesota high school hockey history with 290 career points. In his junior season, the center scored 70 goals with 43 assists in 25 games. In 12 total playoff games, Nelson scored 18 goals with 14 assists.
During the 2016-17 season, Nelson joined the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League. In his first year, Nelson notched seven goals and 11 assists in 54 games and followed with an eight-goal, nine-assist season the next year. During the 2018-19 season, the forward moved on to the Omaha Lancers as an assistant captain and scored 19 goals with 21 assists in 52 games. Upon finishing his third campaign in the USHL, Nelson committed to the University of Minnesota.
Nelson played five seasons with the Golden Gophers and was captain his fifth year. Nelson finished his career with 42 goals and 47 assists in 169 games. In 2018, Nelson was ranked 141st among North American skaters by Central Scouting but went undrafted.
The Boston Bruins Sign Jaxon Nelson to One-Year Contract
The Boston Bruins signed Jaxon Nelson to a one-year, $950,000 contract on April 2, 2024, with a salary cap hit of $870,000. Nelson played seven regular season games with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League with one goal and four playoff games going pointless. Nelson participated in Bruins Development Camp this summer and will play for Providence again this season.
