Michael DiPietro was born on June 9, 1999, in Windsor, Ontario. The goalie played 21 games for the Sun County Panthers 16U AAA team during the 2014-15 season and posted a 2.12 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. In 2015, DiPietro was the 23rd overall pick of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In his first season with the Spitfires, the netminder registered a 2.45 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 29 games. An increased workload saw DiPietro log 51 games during the 2016-17 season, and his numbers improved.
The Vancouver Canucks Select Michael DiPietro in the Third Round of the 2017 NHL Draft
DiPietro was drafted with the 64th overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. DiPietro played two more seasons in the OHL before making his NHL debut as an emergency call-up with the Canucks. DiPietro allowed seven goals in his inauspicious debut. However, an impressive showing at the World Junior Championships was the highlight of his 2018-19 season.
Michael DiPietro Traded to the Boston Bruins
The Bruins traded forward Jack Studnicka for Michael DiPietro and defenseman Jonathan Myrenberg on October 27, 2022. DiPietro was playing with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League and posted a 15-14 record with a 2.95 GAA and a .901 save percentage. During the 2022-23 season, the 6-foot, 200-pound goalie played for the Maine Mariners of the ECHL and is now a member of the Providence Bruins of the AHL. DiPietro registered a 2.51 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 2023-24 with Providence and signed a one-year contract for the 2024-25 season.
