Ryan Bischel was born on July 5, 1999, in Medina, Minnesota. The goaltender played high school hockey at Benilde-St. Margaret’s School from 2013-16. Bischel played 48 total games and finished with a 2.09 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in his third season. Bischel joined the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League for the 2016-17 season and was 6-4-2 in his first season with a 2.21 goals against average and a .904 save percentage. The next season, the Force was the Clark Cup champion, and Bischel played 29 games with a 15-8-4 record, his goals-against average was 2.24, and his save percentage was .920.
Bischel was the primary goalie for Fargo during the 2018-19 season and played 55 games with a 28-20-5 record. After the season, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound goalie committed to the University of Notre Dame and played seven games in his first season. Bischel’s workload steadily grew until he played 36 games during his fifth collegiate season. Bischel was a Hobey Baker Award nominee for top college hockey player and registered a 2.58 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
Ryan Bischel Signs One-Year Deal With Boston Bruins’ Affiliate
On March 18, 2024, Ryan Bischel signed a one-year contract with the Providence Bruins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Boston Bruins. The 2023 Big Ten Goaltender of the Year led the nation in saves with 1,183 and projects to see time with Providence and maybe the Maine Mariners of the ECHL during the 2024-25 season.
