Ryan Mast was born on January 14, 2003, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The defenseman played for the Compuware 14U hockey club during the 2017-18 season and scored one goal with five assists in 12 games. The next season with the 16U team, Mast accumulated two goals and two assists in 18 games. His teams won the league championship in both seasons. In the 2019 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, Mast was drafted 169th overall in the ninth round by the Sarnia Sting.
With the Sting, the blue-liner registered one goal and 10 assists in 58 games in his first season. The next year, Mast did not play due to COVID. During the 2021-22 season, Mast collected nine goals and 22 assists from the back end and followed that up with an eight-goal, 22-assist season the following year.

Ryan Mast was chosen by Boston with the 181st overall pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Draft. The team signed Mast to a three-year, entry-level contract worth $2.635 million on July 18, 2022. Mast played seven games for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League during the 2023-24 season and also played 47 games for the Maine Mariners of the ECHL. Mast projects to begin the 2024-25 campaign with Providence.
