Ryan Walsh was born on August 25, 2003, in Rochester, New York. Walsh played for the Rochester Selects 16U AAA team in a Covid-shortened 2019-20 season. In eight games, the center scored three goals with three assists. The next season, on the Rochester Coalition 18U AAA club, Walsh contributed 13 goals and 21 assists in 33 games and also played two games with the Salisbury School prep team. During the 2021-22 year, Walsh totaled 24 goals and 35 assists in 28 games with the Buffalo Regals 18U AAA team and 16 goals and 23 assists with Salisbury.

With the 188th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the Boston Bruins selected Ryan Walsh. During the 2022-23 season, played with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League who drafted the forward with the 52nd overall pick in the 2022 USHL Draft. Walsh registered 30 goals and 49 assists and was a first-team All-Star.
The scout by Elite Prospects described Walsh as a player who “is all about the details. Offensively, he’s always open, and when he can’t be, he skates into groups of defenders to create space for a teammate. He wins body positioning around the net, plays a give-and-go style, and never hangs onto the puck for too long”.
Walsh committed to Cornell University for the 2023-24 season and scored 12 goals with 10 assists in 35 games and will be entering his sophomore season for 2024-25.
