Providence Bruins Goalie Signs with Defending Stanley Cup Champions

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers needed a goalie today. They signed former Providence Bruins goalie Brandon Bussi. He was signed to a one-year, two-way contract. The Panthers needed goalie depth after their backup, Vitek Janacek, and AHL goalie Kaapo Kahkonen signed elsewhere today. Bussi this season went 15-14-3 with a 2.77 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage, and five shutouts. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, he went 1-1 in two games with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage; both of those starts came against the Panthers AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers. The Panthers now have Daniil Tarasov. They acquired him in a trade from Columbus. They also have Bussi. These players can be an option for their backup goalie spot behind Sergei Bobrovsky for the 2025-26 season.

Bussi played his college hockey at Western Michigan University, where he appeared in 77 games, going with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. In 111 AHL games, Brandon Bussi went 63-31-12 with a 2.62 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage, and eight shutouts. In ten Calder Cup Playoff games, he went 3-7-0 with a 2.25 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage, and a shutout.
