On Monday morning PWHL Boston announced their second signing this offseason. Sydney Bard signed a two-year contract, the 22nd pick of the 2024 PWHL Draft.
Bard started her hockey career at Colgate University, where she played the past five seasons. At Colgate, she recorded 112 points (13-99). Bard is a 2019 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship silver medalist. She is a smaller defender who will help out on the blue line and the offensive side.
Season stats at Colgate University:
2019-20: 16 points (3-13) in 38 games played (most by any ECAC rookie defenseman) and scored in the final seconds of regulation in Game One of ECAC Quarterfinals to force overtime (Feb. 28).
2020-21: 8 points (1-7) in 23 games played.
2021-22: 27 points (4-23) in 39 games played (led all ECACH defenders). Tallied three assists in the season-opener against RIT (Sept. 24) and scored game-winning goal and recorded an assist at Vermont (Oct. 10).
2022-23: 33 points (3-33) in 40 games played. Recorded a season-high three assists on two occasions in Colgate’s 5-4 win over Harvard and 10-0 win over Union (Nov. 11 and Jan. 7).
2023-24: 28 points (2-26) in 40 games played. Broke the 100 career point mark with a four-point showing at Princeton (Jan. 20) and recorded three assists versus Maine in the Battle at the Burgh tournament (Dec. 29).
“Sydney is a mobile defender with a high IQ and good offensive involvement,” said PWHL Boston General Manager Danielle Marmer. “She’s active on zone exits and can get up into the rush. We want to play a fast transition game and Syd has attributes that fit that style of play.”
