PWHL Boston Fleet

The game between Boston and New York on Friday night was possibly one of the most eventful in PWHL history. It featured a total of 30 PIM and two penalties were reviewed as major penalties. New York made a late third-period comeback. It was not enough. Boston finished the job in shootouts. They now sit in fourth place.

First Period

The lone goal of the first period was from Boston’s sensational forward, Alina Muller. With twelve seconds left, Muller was up on a breakaway. She scored Boston’s first jailbreak goal of the season to take the lead.

Second Period

There were no goals from either side in the second period. 16 of the 30 penalty minutes were served during the second period.

Third Period

Boston’s rookie Hannah Bilka scored almost three minutes into the third period. This gave Boston a two-goal lead.

However, New York scored two goals in the span of four minutes to tie the game up. Both goals came from New York’s defender Ella Shelton. Former Fleet player Taylor Girard got the secondary assist on the second goal.

Overtime/Shootout

Boston did not have much control of the puck during overtime. They were able to keep this game tied. The game needed the help from shootouts to finish. Below is a recap of each round:

Round two:

(BOS) Hilary Knight, goal.

(NY) Sarah Fillier, no goal.

Round three:

(BOS) Susanna Tapani, no goal.

Round four:

(BOS) Hilary Knight, no goal.

(NY) Abby Roque

Boston wins it in the shootout with a final score of 3-2.

Final Notes

Boston missed out on the three points in regulation. They picked up two points with the overtime win. They now sit fourth in the league with a tie with Ottawa. The Fleet are on break for the Rivalry Series and will return on Feb. 12. against the Sirens again for a game at the Prudential Center.
