New York held their first game at Prudential Center in New Jersey and hosted their pride game. They drew in a crowd of 5,132 which has been their biggest home attendance this season. Boston was coming off a big win against Toronto to get them closer in the playoff race. A regulation win put them back in a playoff spot, which only lasted a few hours until Ottawa beat Minnesota to put them right back in the final playoff spot.
The first period started with a slow start from both teams. This was a big game for New York but an even bigger game for Boston. With only 4 games left, they need all the points they can get to make their playoff push.
About halfway through the second, Boston gets on board off a rebound shot from Nicole Kosta that was knocked in by Corinne Schroeder. Kosta was coming off a fresh contract Sunday morning and has already shown to be a promising piece to this Boston team.
Jessie Eldrige gets one back for New York off a rebound with less than 5 minutes left in the second to tie this game up. Period two was a much better period for Boston.
The third period started and it was a lot of back and forth. New York only got 6 shots on goal this period, while Boston got 14. The game finally got its first penalty when Jamie Bourbonnais went to the box for hooking, Boston was unable to convert on their powerplay, they currently hold the lowest powerplay % with 6.4%. As the clock winds down in the period, Boston’s Lexie Adzija gives Boston the lead once again, her first goal in the green and white.
Boston holds onto the lead to give them their second straight regulation win to put them in the final playoff spot for just a few hours until Ottawa took control of it again. Regardless, this was a huge game for Boston. Boston plays Ottawa in their next game on Wednesday, this game will set the tone for the final couple weeks of the regular season.
