New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin was forced to leave Tuesday night’s game with a lower-body injury in the team’s 5-4 win over the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden.
This was the second game that Panarin played this preseason, and in both, he was not on the bench when the game concluded. He left the third period of the team’s 6-4 win over the islanders last week.
The Breadman had four shifts in the first period of Tuesday’s game before heading to the locker room. He was ruled out of the remainder of the contest at the start of the second period. With opening night a week away (October 8th in Pittsburgh), the team is not panicking despite the concern.
Head coach Peter Laviolette had little to say about this injury during his post-game comments,
“Players leave the game, there’s always concern. He’s being evaluated.”
Rangers Defeat Devils in Preseason Game
On Tuesday, the Rangers faced the Devils for the second time in 24 hours. Connor Mackey and Victor Mancini scored Tuesday night, in addition to forwards Kaapo Kakko, Adam Edstrom, and Vincent Trocheck.
Igor Shesterkin played the first two periods, making 16 saves on 18 shots. Dylan Garand played the third period, allowing two goals in 16 shots. The teams split the games with both winning on home ice.
Edstrom has had an impressive camp, scoring three goals. The coaching staff has been impressed with his play, noting he has checked off many boxes they look at when evaluating a player. He has a great chance of being on the opening night lineup as Jimy Vesey is injured.
Their final preseason game will be on Friday when they visit the Islanders at UBS Arena.
