The Royals had a rough start to their weekend series against Adirondack, going down four goals in just the first period, two of which were scored by Xavier Parent. Though the Royals were down 4-0 at the end of the first, they still fought hard, outshooting Adirondack 14 to 10. Jacob Gaucher got the Royals on the board at 4:14 seconds into the second period, his fifteenth goal of the season, assisted by Alec Butcher and Shane Sellar. Both teams remained scoreless for the rest of the second period, the Royals still outshooting Adirondack 17 to 12 by the period’s end. Though the Royals kept fighting, totaling 46 shots by the game’s end against goalie Jake Theut, they could not punch the ticket, falling to the Thunder 3-4, none of which were scored during the nine penalties from both teams.

In their final meeting with Adirondack on their home ice this season, the Royals appeared to come out with a little more thunder than the night before, allowing no goals in the first period and outshooting their opponent 18 to 6. It was not until the second period the Royals took the lead when Will MacKinnon scored his fifth of the season, assisted by one of the Royals’ newest additions, Sam Hu, at 14:22 seconds. The Royals had a huge penalty kill earlier in the period with the Thunder on a 5-on-3 advantage but kept the Thunder scoreless until MacKinnon got them up on the board. The Thunder were not finished yet, scoring at just 1:51 seconds into the third to tie the game. Brandon Schultz scored his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Ryan Smith, to keep the Thunder in the game. The Royals got their chance at a 5-on-3 after a second holding penalty was taken from Sebastian Vidmar but just could not capitalize, bringing the game to overtime. The Royals had an extra hand going into the first overtime period. Still, it was not necessary as Charlie Gerard scored his twenty-fourth goal of the season at just 2:31 seconds into the extra period, assisted by rookie, Max Newton, ending the weekend against Adirondack on a high note and another high-shooting night with a second 51 shot game against goalie Jake Theut.

The Royals face the Thunder once more during the regular season at the Santander Arena on Wednesday, March 29th, at 7 pm. Until then, the Royals are back in action at home this week for a three-game weekend series against the Trois-Rivières Lions.
