Red Wings Begin Home/Home with Toronto

The Detroit Red Wings will begin a home/home series with the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at LCA. Game time tonight is 7:30 pm ET, and the game can be watched on the NHL Network and BSDET. Detroit will finish its preseason with a return visit to Toronto on Saturday. Game time in Toronto will be 7:00 pm ET.

Detroit suffered a 4-2 loss in Washington on Wednesday and now has a preseason record of 2-4-0. Tyler Bertuzzi and Michael Rasmussen scored Detroit’s goals. Simon Edvinsson had a tough night ending with a -2 rating and two giveaways in 18:36 minutes of playing time. Edvinsson also had three shots on goal and two blocked shots in the game. Ville Husso played the full game allowing three goals on 34 shots. Alex Ovechkin scored the insurance goal into an empty net with 54 seconds remaining in the third period.

Tonight’s Red Wings lineup will feature a mostly veteran lineup. A total of ten returning forwards will be in tonight’s lineup. The Red Wings will also dress four regulars from last year on defense. Newcomers in tonight’s lineup include free-agent forwards Dominik Kubalik and David Perron. New defensemen playing tonight include Olli Maatta and Ben Chiarot. Alex Nedeljkovic and Sebastian Cossa will be the goaltenders for tonight’s game.

What top prospects are playing?

Elmer Soderblom will be playing in his fifth preseason game tonight. On Wednesday, Soderblom had four shots on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, one takeaway, and a -2 rating in 13:20 minutes of playing time. His ice time included playing 1:39 minutes on the power play.

Simon Edvinsson will also be playing in his fifth preseason game tonight. On Wednesday, Edvinsson recorded three shots on goal, two blocked shots, two giveaways, and a -2 rating during 18:36 minutes of playing time.

Sebastian Cossa will likely be the backup tonight. Cossa has played 49:19 minutes of preseason action split between two games. He currently has a 1.22 GAA and a .950 SV% during the preseason.
