James Reimer Signs With Detroit Red Wings

James Reimer and the Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $1.5 million annually. The Morweena, Manitoba-born James Reimer has been in the league since the 2010-11 season. Reimer has split his NHL tenure between four teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Reimer can now add a second original six franchise to his list of teams played for.

Detroit brings in the experienced goaltender who most recently played his second stint with the San Jose Sharks. In Reimer’s 2022-23 season, he played 43 games where he posted a goals-against average of 3.48 and a save percentage of 0.890.

While the numbers are less than ideal, Reimer is signed as a backup goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings. Reimer will be an unrestricted free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season.
