Frank Seravalli revealed during an interview on Sportsnet 650 yesterday that the Canucks have had a trade offer for a few weeks. He speculates that the potential deal involves the San Jose Sharks.
“I believe the Canucks have had a deal on the table for Tyler Myers for [weeks] now,” Seravalli disclosed to Sportsnet 650 morning show host Mike Halford and Jason Brough.
Despite the extended negotiations, the details of the trade remain uncertain. Seravalli acknowledges the time the deal has been under discussion but suggests that the trade could still materialize. Many assumed that the looming signing bonus payment would prevent any trade from happening, but Seravalli believes otherwise.
“I don’t know what the hold-up is. I don’t know if it’ll get done given how long it’s lingered out there. But I believe the Canucks, and I believe it’s the San Jose Sharks, have talked about Tyler Myers. And I don’t know where that’s going, but something to keep an eye on. I think a lot of people were assuming that because that bonus is due that it is impossible to make a trade. I’m not sure that’s the case.”

Evaluating Tyler Myers
Tyler Myers is in the final year of his contract, with a cap hit of $6 million. However, he will receive a signing bonus of $5 million on September 1. Although his cap hit would still be $6 million, any team acquiring Myers after the bonus payment would only need to pay him the $1 Million.
Sharks’ Interest in Tyler Myers
The San Jose Sharks, a team currently in a rebuilding phase, have the necessary cap space and may highly value the presence of a seasoned leader like Tyler Myers. Myers could mentor their young players, bringing his wealth of experience to the team. With the Canucks undergoing changes and having bought out Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Myers is one of the three defensemen currently under contract who played regularly in the NHL last season.
Myers’ Performance and Stats
During the previous season, Tyler Myers had an average ice time of 20 minutes and 54 seconds per game. In 78 games, he contributed 17 points, consisting of 1 goal and 16 assists.
As the situation develops, it will be intriguing to see how this trade scenario unfolds and whether Myers finds a new home with the Sharks. What would you want in return from the Sharks?
