The Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames are finalizing a trade that involves forwards Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Editors Note: This post will be updated as trade details become available.
Calgary has also traded two draft picks, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2028 seventh-round pick as apart of the trade.
In return, Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost find new homes in Calgary.
Neither team retained salary in this trade.
Per Friedman, Kuzmenko waived his no-trade clause to go to Philadelphia.
Kuzmenko was a healthy scratch as assumed for trade reasons, but no official confirmation came out. Pelletier was playing in the Flames’ game against the Anaheim Ducks and was pulled due to his involvement in the trade.
Kuzmenko, 28, has 15 points (4G, 11A) in 37 games for the Calgary Flames this year. He had 25 points (14G, 11A) in 29 games for the Flames last year and 21 points (8G, 13A) in 43 games for the Vancouver Canucks before he was traded to Calgary.
In his rookie season, Kuzmenko took the league by storm, posting 74 points (39G, 35A) in 81 games and put the NHL on notice.
Pelletier, 23, has been between the Calgary Wranglers and Stockton Heat of the AHL and the Calgary Flames of the NHL. He’s just found success this year, posting 11 points (4G, 7A) in 23 games played for the Flames while also posting 19 points (3G, 16A) in 20 games for the Wranglers.
The 2019 26th overall draft selection has been a massive addition to the Flames’ lineup since he’s been with the organization. He’s looked to blossom into a true top-six role, a trade to Philadelphia could look genius should he continue to push in this direction.
This trade should provide great value for both teams.
