Report: Blackhawks stars Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews off the trading block — for now

Patrick Kane

The Blackhawks might be losing their stars, but not just yet.

According to Pat Brisson, agent for Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Seth Jones, the trio are “not necessarily in agreement with the direction the team is taking,” per reporter Pierre LeBrun.

In the same report, Brisson added, “They will let the dust settle first and then patiently make the best decisions for each player as it pertains to their respective careers.”

If this revelation is accurate, it would mean Kane, Toews, and Jones, are off the trading block. Reports circulated within the last few days that Kane wanted out of Chicago. However, ESPN stated that the three-time Stanley Cup champion would likely see “how the season starts” with his career-long team before making a decision. If things continue to go downhill, Chicago could look to move him by the trade deadline in 2023.

The Blackhawks have been busy this offseason, and unfortunately, it’s in the business of annoying their fanbase. They traded away Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. Moreover, they also placed Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Strome, who was just picked up by the New York Rangers, on unconditional waivers.

Kane and Toews have both been with the Hawks since the 2007-08 season, while Seth Jones was traded to Chicago by the Columbus Blue Jackets for Adam Boqvist and three draft picks in July of 2021.

If the gossip is any indication, it would appear that the top two teams gunning for Kane are the Rangers and the reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.

Vancouver Canucks Split The Alberta Teams; Other News & Notes

Both Alberta teams breezed through town in the past few days. The Oilers, last Saturday, was much more like a hurricane as they trounced the Canucks 7-3. Goaltender Kevin Lankinen definitely was not to fully blame though, the team in front of him looked dismal at best. One of those games where it looked like […]

Edmonton Oilers Pregame Thoughts

They won, that’s all that matters. They won. Tuesday night’s game had no business going to overtime. Edmonton made it a two goal game in the third period against a team riddled with injuries, and then they just couldn’t buy a save. The first Islanders goal was a nice shot, I don’t blame Stuart Skinner […]
