There has been one name on the trade market since last season’s trade deadline that has been viewed as the top trade candidate. Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun has had his name floated around for a while now as trade talks have heated up and then cooled down just to heat up again. One of the main reasons Chychrun has stayed put in the desert is the asking price Arizona has set for the young defenseman. However, it appears that the market is now as hot as it’s ever been.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, as the regular season approaches, trade interest is ”intensifying” around Chychrun. Although Arizona expects a big return, they reportedly have ”softened” their ask, which has kept teams away in past from getting a deal complete.
Some of the teams listed by Dreger with interest include the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and the Columbus Blue Jackets (and more).
Though the asking price has reportedly lowered in recent months, the Coyotes are still hoping to receive a first-round pick and prospect(s) in return.
Only time will tell where Chychrun ends up, as NHL fans are used to these hearing about these talks. This time it feels legitimate with the asking price changing as a first, and a prospect is much more doable for teams. Fans should keep a close eye on the Ottawa Senators and Los Angles Kings as they have a need at defense and have the assets to get a deal done.
