Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks have announced the signing of Noah Juulsen to a two-year, two-way contract. The former first-round right handed Defenseman is coming off a year with 61 games split between the AHL and NHL Canucks, a career-high of 20 points in Abbotsford Noah’s progression has been great, and it should be interesting to see if Canucks coach Rick Tocchet will give him a shot at the 6/7 spot for the team.
Clearing Waivers
It is very important to note, as first reported by Rick Dhaliwal, Juulsen will have to clear waivers to go down to Abbotsford. This is due to him playing five seasons of pro hockey before signing this deal. Per CapFriendly, a skater who signs their entry-level contract at 18 will require waivers after playing 160 NHL games or after five seasons (whichever comes first). CBA Reference 13.4
This is might tip the hand that the Canucks might look for their bottom-pairing defensemen from their prospect pool and might try to save money their to add a 3rd pairing center and a top four defenseman. With Free-agency opening tomorrow, what do you want to see the Canucks do?
