Pat Mikesch comes to the Toledo Walleye from the USHL Green Bay Gamblers. Mikesch started with the Gamblers as an assistant coach from 2011-2014. Then, he spent eight years as the head coach of the organization. Of those eight years, he had five winning seasons and made the playoffs in three of those years. However, the Gamblers never made it beyond the first round. Mikesch parted ways with the Gamblers at the end of the 2021-2022 season. As the head coach of the Gamblers, Mikesch saw 214 wins and 200 losses.
In December of 2022, Mikesch returned to his alma mater as the Assistant Director of Major Gifts at Michigan Tech. Mikesch was responsible for securing gifts for Michigan Tech Athletics and the College of Computing. Mikesch was a former hockey student-athlete at the university.
Mikesch was inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame in November of 2022. He played hockey for the Huskies from 1992 to 1996. He is the seventh all-time scorer with 169 points and sixth in career assisted with 112.
Mikesch was named to the 1992-1993 Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Rookie Team. He went on to play for Team USA at the World Junior Championships. After, he played eight years of professional hockey in the AHL, IHL, ECHL, and overseas in Germany before returning to Michigan Tech in 2004 as an assistant coach, where he stayed until 2011.
Mikesch replaces Dan Watson, who was recently named the head coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins.
