The injury bug the Golden Knights faced last season has once again plagued them for the 2022-2023 season. This time derailing their goaltender depth as they have lost starter Robin Lehner for the entire season and backup Laurent Brossoit for the first few months of the season. Both goalies had off-season surgeries making them unavailable.
GM Kelly McCrimmon announced that the club would start the season with a duo of Logan Thompson and Michael Hutchinson earlier this week. For a team that is expected to be a playoff contender, having to enter the season with your third and fourth goaltenders on your depth chart as your starting tandem is never easy.
Finding a way to bring in a more experienced goaltender was at the top of McCrimmon’s list and he went out and did exactly that yesterday. McCrimmon has made a deal with their rival San Jose Sharks to bolster his goaltending depth to start the season.
As per the Golden Knights PR:
‘Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, August 29, that the team has acquired goaltender Adin Hill from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.”
Hill appeared in a career-high 25 games with the Sharks last season, recording a 2.66 GAA, .906 save percentage and two shutouts. Not bad numbers for a goalie who suited up for a lousy San Jose team last season. Hill will be a welcomed addition to Vegas as he looks to provide solid goaltending and help stablize a goaltending room that is dropping like flies.
Hill was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (76th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
