Leafs Projected Lineup
Four Things to Look Out For
Robertson
Nick Robertson has performed again at the AHL level this season with five goals and 11 points in just nine games. Robertson has had an unlucky start to his NHL career, largely in part due to injuries, but has pushed through every time and seems to come back stronger. This team has been lacking secondary scoring, so Robertson should be a welcome addition. While Robertson’s playing style is typically better suited for a top-six role, it’s important for him to show that he can contribute throughout the lineup. Keep an eye on Robertson as he suits up in his first game with the Leafs this season and looks to earn a second game.
Domi
Max Domi was one of the forwards who Keefe called out after the last game, stating he wanted more from him. The secondary scoring for the Leafs has been a problem, and Domi is an example of this, with no goals in his 11 games so far. Domi is being shifted to center tonight, though, and that could change things as he had successful stretches of hockey last year down the middle. Look out for Domi tonight, as he hopes to contribute offensively while also having more defensive responsibilities in a center role.
Benoit
Simon Benoit is suiting up to play his first regular season game with the Leafs after initially being on the opening day roster. Benoit went unqualified by the Ducks after the Ducks had a season to forget about, and the Leafs took the chance on the defenseman and signed him. Benoit is determined to prove the Ducks wrong and show that it was a mistake not qualifying him. Benoit, however, has quite the battle ahead of him. He brings physicality to this Leafs lineup and will look to focus on more than just physicality, as he needs to show up defensively as well.
Knies
Matthew Knies is in his first full season with the Leafs and, after spending most of the season in third-line minutes finds himself with Matthews and Marner tonight. Knies has shown signs of promise and is a skilled power-forward. He will look to build upon some chemistry he has already developed with Matthews as the Leafs look to find the best winger to play with Matthews and Marner. Knies’ game could help Matthews and Marner out, as he isn’t afraid to go into the dirty areas and be aggressive. Look for Knies to win puck battles and help the Leafs overall effort tonight.
Samsonov starts tonight as the puck drops at 7 p.m. EST on Sportsnet!
