The Rockford IceHogs this season finished 31-33-6-2 with 62 points and a -50 goal differential. They did make the Calder Cup playoffs and swept the Chicago Wolves in the first round. They then lost to the Milwaukee Admirals in five games in round two. Today they announced they are re-signing a veteran defenseman to a two-year AHL contract as 28, year old Cavan Fitzgerald will return to the IceHogs. He had a power-play goal as well. Fitzgerald this season in 63 games 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists. He was a plus-five and had 30 penalty minutes. In the playoffs in seven games he had an assist and was a minus-two with two penalty minutes.

Cavan Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald just concluded his eighth season in the AHL having spent time with four different teams. He’s played for the IceHogs, Chicago Wolves, Charlotte Checkers, San Jose Barracuda. In 373 career games he has 118 points on 41 goals and 77 assists. He is a +39 for his career with 186 penalty minutes. Fitzgerald has nine career power-play goals and three game-winning goals. In 2023-24 he had a career high in points with 27 which included career highs in goals and assists with 12 goals and 15 assists.
