After a dominant 5-0 shutout against the Minnesota Frost followed by an unfortunate 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Charge, the Sirens, eager to regain their momentum, ultimately emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 overtime thriller against the Sceptres on Sunday, January 12th at Prudential Center. The loss was particularly unfortunate for Toronto, who had recently snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory against the Boston Fleet, only to find themselves in a three-game losing skid. The overtime heroics of Jessie Eldridge, who scored the game-winning goal, along with the stellar goaltending of Corinne Schroeder, who denied all 28 shots she faced helped New York secure the 1-0 shutout victory. The Sceptres head to Ottawa to take on the Charge in search of a win to snap their three-game losing streak on Tuesday, while the Sirens will be hosting the Frost on Wednesday.

New York Sirens Lineup:

After a scoreless 60 minutes of regulation, the winning team had to be determined in overtime where Jessie Eldridge scored the deciding goal, which had been her third goal of the season. Jaime Bourbonnais sent the puck over to Sarah Fillier from the right side, above the right circle, and Fillier fired the puck from above the left circle all the way up the ice for Eldridge to pick up, going top shelf from the left of Kristen Campbell for the 1-0 shutout final.

Game Notes:

– Kristen Campbell made a total of 19 saves for Toronto.

– Daryl Watts led the game in shots with a total of seven, which ties her career-high in the category.

– Both Savannah Harmon and Renata Fast had the most time on ice at 26:53 for Harmon, and 26:15 for Fast.

– Corinne Schroeder is the first-ever PWHL goaltender to post back-to-back shutouts in the regular season. Both Campbell and Maddie Rooney recorded back-to-back shutouts during the playoffs. …Schroeder leads the league with a total of five wins, a goals-against-average of 1.86, and she’s tied with a .935 save percentage. 166:44 is where her current shutout streak stands.

This is the first time in PWHL history that no goals were scored during regulation during the regular season. During the playoffs, two games ended 1-0, both in double overtime.

– With her overtime winner, Jessie Eldridge now has two game-winning goals in three games for the Sirens. Eldridge also ranks third in team scoring with nine points in nine games; three goals and six assists.

– With her assist on Eldridge’s goal, Sarah Fillier added to her league lead in rookie points with 10 and rookie assists with six.
