The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers just two hours before the trade deadline. The Maple Leafs are sending Nikita Grebenkin and a conditional 2027 1st round pick to the Flyers in return for Laughton, a 4th round, and 6th round pick. Philadelphia will retain 50% of Laughton’s $3,625,000 cap hit.

Scott Laughton is a 30-year-old center and has 27 points (11 G, 16 A) over 60 games with the Flyers this season. He has spent his entire career in Philadelphia until this point with 265 points (106 G, 159 A) over 661 career games. He was drafted 20th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Level Draft. Laughton is from Toronto, and this is a trade that was building quite a bit of buzz throughout the season. He is a third-line, net-crashing player with an edge. He excels at retrieving and stealing the puck, and throwing hits when necessary.
Nikita Grebenkin is a 21-year-old right-wing and has spent most of the season with Leafs affiliate, the Toronto Marlies where he has 21 points (9 G, 12 A) over 39 games. He has played in seven games with zero points for the Leafs this year. Laughton often has the puck on his stick and can be creative in 1-on-1 situations. He works well as a setup player when fired with a speedy, skilled shooter. He can shrug off shoves from bigger players and keep the play alive.
“It’s been in the rumors for a few years but this year felt a little bit different … It’s pretty surreal.”
