Seattle Kraken Place Goaltender on Waivers

The Seattle Kraken dropped a tough one last night to the Anaheim Ducks 6-2. With the loss, they dropped behind the Ducks in the Western Conference standings and are now eight points from the final playoff spot. Today they announced they are placing goalie Philipp Grubauer on waivers with the hopes of assigning him to Coachella Valley of the AHL. Grubauer has struggled as of late going 0-4-1 with a 4.73 goals-against average and a .827 save percentage; he hasn’t won since December 30th. The expected replacement is Ales Stezka who was called up earlier this season.

Philipp Grubauer

Grubauer is in his 13th season. He’s spent time with the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, and Kraken. He has appeared in 365 games going 163-137-33 with a .908 save percentage, a 2.66 goals-against average, and 22 shutouts. Grubauer spent six seasons with the Capitals making 101 appearances going 43-31-11 with a .923 save percentage, a 2.29 goals-against average, and six shutouts. He won the Stanley Cup in his final season with Washington.

In Grubauer’s three seasons with the Avalanche, he appeared in 113 games going 66-30-10 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.38 goals-against average. He finished third in the Vezina Trophy voting in his last season with Colorado. He made 40 appearances that season going 30-9-1 with a .922 save percentage, a 1.95 goals-against average, and seven shutouts. Grubauer’s spent the last four seasons in Seattle appearing in 151 games. He is 54-76-12 with a .890 save percentage, a 3.10 goals-against average, and four shutouts. This season in 21 appearances he is 5-15-1 with a .866 save percentage, a 3.83 goals-against average, and zero shutouts.
