Seattle Kraken prospect Shane Wright can’t seem to stay out of the hockey news headlines this season. This time it’s injury related. Wright sustained a lower-body injury.
As Dave Jewell of The Hockey Writers first reported on Thursday, although vague, it’s attention-catching based on who the player is.
Since sliding to the fourth pick in the 2022 NHL Draft last July, Wright has seemingly been the center of attention.
Whether it’s the drop to fourth in the draft, playing limited minutes in eight games with the Kraken, getting sent to the AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds for a five-game conditioning stint, representing Team Canada at the 2023 World Junior Championship, and being named team captain.
After leading Canada to the gold medal, Wright was sent to the Kingston Frontenacs by the Seattle Kraken to almost immediately get traded to the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL.
With the Spitfires sitting in 8th in the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings with a 28-10-3-1 record, they went all-in at the OHL trade deadline to acquire Wright.
Before getting injured, Wright played in six games for Windsor, putting up 11 points (5G,6A). Finally, getting a chance to play a significant role and prove why he was considered a sure-fire first-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
With the latest update from Dave Jewell, we will know much more about the severity of Wright’s injury in the coming days.
Stay tuned.
