The Winnipeg Jets announced on Friday, July 26th, that they’ve re-signed defenseman Simon Lundmark to a one-year, two-way contract.
The 23-year-old defenseman was drafted in the second round (51st overall) back in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Lundmark’s contract will expire at the end of the 2024-25 season and he will remain a restricted free agent. The NHL salary is $775,000 and carries a salary in the minors of $100,000. Lundmark’s qualifying offer will be $813,750 at the contract’s expiration.
Lundmark hails from Stockholm, Sweden and has spent the past three seasons with the Manitoba Moose. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, Lundmark has played 188 AHL games posting 48 points (12G, 36A) since joining the Moose in the 2021-22 season.
This extension comes just a little while after his Manitoba Moose defensive partner, Ville Heinola, signed an extension of his own in Winnipeg. Lundmark is entering his fourth season for the Moose while Heinola is entering his sixth, both certainly have what it takes to make their way on the Winnipeg Jets roster in 2024-25.
Lundmark has yet to make his NHL debut, which could change in the upcoming season. He will certainly be a core piece to the Moose’s defensive corps as there are a bunch of new faces joining the Moose. There are also bigger opportunities and roles with the Moose that Lundmark could take on this season.
This is Lundmark’s second NHL contract and he was the second last restricted free agent the Winnipeg Jets had to worry about. Up next is restricted free agent forward Cole Perfetti who is the only player left in the Winnipeg Jets organization who needs a new contract ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The summer of the Winnipeg Jets has been intriguing so far, it has had its twists and turns, but it certainly has been entertaining nonetheless.
