SPHL: Brent Moran Named Player of the Week (12/09-12/15/2024)

The SPHL announced yesterday that Brent Moran, goaltender for the Quad City Storm, has been recognized as the Warrior SPHL Player of the Week for the period of December 9-15. Moran achieved an outstanding record of 2-0-0, showcasing an impressive 0.50 goals against average and an exceptional 0.986 save percentage, leading the Storm to a weekend sweep against Pensacola. On Friday, he made 33 saves in a 5-1 triumph over the Ice Flyers. The next night, he stopped all 39 shots, including 16 in the third period, earning his second shutout of the season in a 5-0 victory against Pensacola.

Moran, standing at an impressive 6’4″ and weighing 194 lbs, has been a key player for the Storm. Now in his fourth professional season and second with the Storm, the Orleans, ON native is ranked second in the SPHL for shutouts, with two, and fifth in total saves.

Career Highlights and Awards

Moran’s junior career began with impressive stints at the Niagara IceDogs and Flint Firebirds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s premier goaltenders. His professional journey started in the ECHL with the Worcester Railers before he transitioned to the SPHL. Notably, Moran also represented Canada at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship, contributing to the team’s success by securing a bronze medal.

During the 2023-24 season, Moran played 40 games, achieving a record of 21-15-4. He achieved a franchise milestone by securing those 21 victories, the highest number of wins in a single season. He also posted a goals against average (GAA) of 2.45 and a save percentage of 0.918. His performance included four shutouts and a total of 1,150 saves, ranking him among the top goaltenders in the league. Moran’s consistent play was instrumental in leading the Storm to the playoffs, where he continued to excel under pressure.

In 2023, Moran’s excellence on the ice earned him a selection as an SPHL All-Star, highlighting his significant impact on the game. His remarkable performance throughout the 2023-24 season culminated in being named the Quad City Storm’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), showcasing his consistent and outstanding contributions. His skills were further recognized when he was named the Warrior/SPHL Co-Player of the Week for February 19-25, 2024, alongside teammate Kevin Resop, after achieving a remarkable .936 save percentage and 2.50 goals against average during a perfect 3-0 weekend for the Storm.
