SPHL: Ford and Widmar Named Warrior SPHL Co-Players of the Week (Nov. 11-17)

The SPHL announced today that Nick Ford (#18) and Joe Widmar (#8) of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs have been named the Warrior SPHL Co-Players of the Week for November 11-17.

Ford and Widmar combined for an impressive 19 points over two games, leading the Rail Yard Dawgs to two victories against Quad City and extending their winning streak to four games. Ford netted three goals, including a short handed one, and contributed seven assists. Widmar, in his first games with Roanoke after starting the season with the Rapid City Rush, scored three goals and provided six assists.

On Friday, Ford scored twice and assisted on two more goals, while Widmar added a goal and two assists, helping Roanoke to a 6-3 win over Quad City. The duo continued their offensive surge on Saturday in a 7-6 win over the Storm, setting a new team record for points in a game with six each. Widmar scored twice and had four assists, while Ford scored once and tied the Dawgs’ single-game record with five assists.

Ford has played a total of nine games for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs so far this this season. Ford’s 10-point week now places him at the top of the SPHL leaderboard in points with 19, and he has tallied 15 assists, six power-play assists, and six power-play points.

Widmar has played three games for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, scoring three goals and providing six assists, giving him a total of nine points. This means he has been involved in 50% of the team’s goals during his games among those players having five shots on net or more.

The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs have had a mixed start to their season. As of now, they hold a record of 5-3-1. They’ve shown strong performances recently, including that thrilling overtime win against Quad City. The victory marked their fourth consecutive win, highlighting their potential to be a competitive team this season.

Additionally, the Rail Yard Dawgs have played nine games so far, scoring 47 goals and conceding 36, with a points percentage of 61.1%. They have a home record of 3-1-1-0 and an away record of 2-2-0-0. The Dawgs’ next game is on Thursday, November 21, against the Knoxville Ice Bears. The game will take place at the Berglund Center, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.
