SPHL: Macon Mayhem Add Goalie, Forward and Defenseman

The Macon Mayhem have made some exciting additions to their roster with the signings of goaltender Reid Cooper, forward Conor Witherspoon, and forward Parker Allison.

Reid Cooper, 26, from Corman Park, Saskatchewan, made his professional debut last season with the South Carolina Stingrays, where he posted a 3-1-0 record in six appearances. Cooper made 19 saves in his first home start for the Stingrays, contributing to a 7-4 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 190 lbs, Cooper had an impressive senior season at Curry College with a 20-win record and a .935 save percentage. Cooper began his college career with NCAA Division I Robert Morris University before transferring to Curry College (NCAA Division III), where he compiled a 32-11-3 record in 46 career games, including four shutouts. He also had the unique opportunity to suit up as the backup goaltender for the NHL’s Washington Capitals on an amateur professional tryout contract during the final game of the 2022-23 NHL season.

Conor Witherspoon, 25, from Metamora, Michigan, is set to make his professional debut with the Mayhem. He started his college career at NCAA Division I Alabama-Huntsville before transferring to NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point. During his college career with the two schools, Witherspoon scored 50 points (31g, 19a) in 90 games. In his senior season, he played 26 games, scoring 11 goals and adding seven assists, earning All-WIAC Honorable Mention honors. Prior to college, Witherspoon played in the NAHL with the Amarillo Bulls and the Shreveport Mudbugs, where he tallied 56 points (12g, 44a) in 97 games.

Parker Allison, 26, from Fairbanks, Alaska, was recently acquired by the Mayhem from the Birmingham Bulls. Allison, a defenseman, played one game this season with the Bulls and nine games last season. He previously played for Buffalo State an in his n his time with the Bengals, he scored 36 points (13g, 23a) in 86 games. Parker Allison is a well-rounded defenseman known for his offensive contributions, having scored 15 points (5g, 10a) in his senior year at Buffalo State, where he also led the team with three power-play goals. His leadership skills were evident as a two-year captain, and his defensive reliability is bolstered by his physical presence and smart play under pressure. Additionally, Allison’s academic excellence, recognized by his Male Senior Scholar-Athlete and CSC Academic All-District honors, highlighted his discipline and commitment both on and off the ice.
