SPHL: Macon Mayhem Re-Sign Michael McChesney and Jarret Kup

On Friday, the Macon Mayhem announced that Forward Michael McChesney and defenseman Jarret Kup have signed contracts and will return to the team for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

McChesney is back for his second season with the Mayhem in the SPHL. During his debut season with the team, he accumulated 32 points (17 goals, 15 assists) in 46 games. Additionally, he played 10 ECHL games with the Wheeling Nailers, contributing three assists for a total of three points.

Before starting his professional career, the forward from Dickinson, North Dakota, attended St. Norbert College, a NCAA Division III school, where he accumulated 66 points (31 goals, 35 assists) in 79 games played. He also represented Team USA at the January 2023 Winter World University Games in Lake Placid. Team USA went on to take home the silver medal.

Jarret Kup, from Rosseau, ONT kicked off his professional career in Macon during the 2017-18 season, contributing four points in eight games with the Mayhem. He continued with the team for another year and a half, playing a total of 96 games and earning 39 points before transitioning to the Fayetteville Marksmen in 2020. While with Fayetteville Kup participated in 127 games and accumulated 40 points. Additionally, he played in all six of the Marksmen’s playoff matches. He returned to the Macon Mayhem for the 2023-24 season and went on to score two goals and had contributed nine assists, totaling 11 points in 31 games.

Kup is gearing up for his fifth season with the Mayhem and his seventh season in the SPHL. Among active SPHL players, he currently holds the sixth position in career games played, having participated in 254 games. Moreover, he holds the eighth position in all-time Mayhem games played, having contributed to a total of 127 games.

Before starting his professional career, Kup participated in 90 games at Curry College (NCAA D-III) and achieved consecutive season-best scores of 17 points in his junior year and 19 points in his senior year. Additionally, Kup served as an alternate captain for Curry during his senior season with the team.

The upcoming season for the Mayhem will kickoff at the Macon Coliseum in Macon, GA on October 19th against the Birmingham Bulls.
