SPHL: Mayhem Acquire Forward Garrett Milan & Defenseman Amedeo Mastrangeli

The Macon Mayhem have acquired the rights to former Pensacola Ice Flyers captain Garrett Milan and rookie defenseman Amedeo Mastrangeli in exchange for the rights to C.J. Hayes.

Milan, a 33-year-old from North Vancouver, British Columbia, has spent six seasons in the SPHL, exclusively with the Ice Flyers, He ranks 16th in all-time SPHL points, amassing 276 points (89 goals, 187 assists) in 260 career games. In the previous season, Milan achieved 50 points (14 goals, 36 assists) in 54 games, marking the third time in his career and the second consecutive year he reached the 50-point milestone. Garrett Milan broke the Ice Flyers franchise goal-scoring record in an overtime win against Fayetteville last March. This marked his 86th career goal with the Ice Flyers, breaking Adam Pawlick’s record and leading the team to a 5-4 victory.

Milan had a notable collegiate hockey career at St. Cloud State University, spanning three seasons from 2011 to 2014. In his junior year (2013-14), he participated in 10 games, contributing two goals and one assist, along with a +2 rating. His sophomore season (2012-13) saw him score two goals and three assists in 24 games, including a goal in a key victory against UND. During his freshman year (2011-12), Milan played in 28 games, marking his first college goal in a match against Colorado College and achieving his first point with an assist later that season. Overall, Milan demonstrated consistent improvement and contributions to the team throughout his time at SCSU.

Mastrangeli, 24, hailing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, is set to begin his first season in professional hockey. He has spent the last four seasons at NCAA Division III Elmira College, where he tallied 76 points (8 goals, 68 assists) over 97 career games. He was recognized as the Elmira College 2023-24 Empire 8 Male Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, following a vote by the conference’s Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs). This award celebrates a male student-athlete who truly embodies the spirit of dedication to both academics and athletics throughout college.

A 2021 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) All-Rookie Team and First Team selection, as well as a 2023 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) First Team honoree, Mastrangeli played a pivotal role in guiding the Soaring Eagles to a remarkable record of 61-31-5. His contributions were instrumental in securing the 2021 UCHC Championship and achieving Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship appearances in both 2022 and 2024.

Mastrangeli participated in 97 games over four seasons with the Soaring Eagles, amassing a total of 75 points through eight goals and 67 assists, while achieving a plus-34 rating. Serving as captain for three years, he was honored as Elmira’s Booster Club Player of the Year in 2023 and recorded a minimum of 20 points in each of his last three seasons.

The Mayhem kick off their season at the Macon Coliseum on October 19th, facing off against the Birmingham Bulls at home.
