The Fayetteville Marksmen continue to lead the standings with an impressive 80% win rate, closely followed by the Huntsville Havoc. Notable performances include high-scoring efforts from players like Nick Ford of Roanoke and Carson Rose of Birmingham. Summary: We mentioned last week how Brian Wilson has been outstanding for Huntsville, maintaining a stellar save percentage of 0.951 and a low goals-against average of 1.63. His performance has been crucial in securing two wins and one overtime loss for his team. It was no surprise to see Wilson get called up to the ECHL. Wilson made a notable debut for the Jacksonville Icemen on November 16, 2024, in a game against the Atlanta Gladiators. He delivered an impressive performance, making 37 saves on 39 shots, which played a crucial role in the Icemen’s 4-2 victory. He will return to the Havoc now that goaltender Matt Vernon had been returned (11/6) to the Icemen from being on loan to Rochester (AHL).

Evansville Thunderbolts

Evansville Thunderbolts have a PP% of 12.5%, scoring four goals on 32 opportunities, and a solid PK% of 88.9%, allowing five goals on 45 times shorthanded. Their penalty kill is strong, but their power play needs significant improvement to boost their standings.

Fayetteville Marksmen

The Fayetteville Marksmen have the highest PK% in the league at 92.3%, allowing only two goals on 26 times shorthanded. However, their power play is the weakest with a PP% of 9.7%, scoring only three goals on 31 opportunities. Their exceptional penalty kill keeps them competitive despite their power play struggles.

First Goal Advantage

The teams had varied success when scoring first. Birmingham and Huntsville both excelled with a 90% win percentage, each securing nine points from five first goals. Knoxville was perfect, winning all three games where they scored first, resulting in a 100% win percentage. Fayetteville also performed well, achieving an 83.3% win percentage with five wins from their six first goals. Other teams like Macon, Peoria, and Roanoke had respectable win percentages of 66.7%, 60%, and 66.7%, respectively. Evansville struggled more, with a 42.9% win percentage despite scoring first in seven of their games. Overall, the league saw a 70.8% win percentage when scoring first, highlighting the importance of gaining the early lead.

Fines and Suspensions

Nicola Levesque of Quad City was suspended for one game [November 12th] under Rule 28, Supplementary Discipline, due to his actions in Game 37 against Fayetteville, which took place on Saturday, November 9. Levesque received a minor penalty for boarding at 19:57 of the first period. As a result of this, he missed Quad City’s game against Roanoke on Friday.

Charlie Risk from Huntsville has been suspended for one game [November 12th] under Rule 46.22, Instigator or Aggressor in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time, following his actions in Game 38 against Knoxville on Sunday, November 10. Risk was given a major penalty for fighting and a game misconduct under Rule 46.2, Aggressor, at 19:07 of the third period. Consequently, he missed Huntsville’s game against Pensacola on Friday.
