St. Cloud State Alum in the AHL

St. Cloud State has many hockey players who have gone on to play at the professional level, including nine players currently in the AHL.

Jack Ahcan (2016-20) – Defenseman Jack Ahcan spent four seasons at St. Cloud State. In 144 games, Ahcan had 21 goals and 82 assists for 103 points. He had 123 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +13. Ahcan ended his career as a Husky with 22 multi-point games and three games where he had three or more points. Ahcan had 206 blocks in his tenure, including 27 games where he had three or more blocks and five games where he had five or more blocks. Ahcan had a total of 303 shots in his career and had five or more shots in 11 games.

Ahcan was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team in the 2016-17 season and was named to the NCHC All-Tournament Team in the 2017-18 season. Ahcan and the Huskies were the NCHC Regular Season Champions in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In the 2018-19 season, Ahcan was named to the NCHC Second All-Star Team and the NCAA West Second All-American Team. He was named to the NCHC Second All-Star Team in the 2019-20 season as well.

Ahcan has spent some time in the NHL with the Boston Bruins and in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Icemen, but he has spent the majority of his career in the AHL with the Providence Bruins and the Colorado Eagles. In two ECHL games, Ahcan did not have any points and had a +1. In the NHL, he has played in nine games where he has one goal with a plus/minus of -6.

Ahcan played with Providence from 2020-23, and has been with the Eagles since the 2023-24 season. In 270 AHL games, Ahcan has 23 goals and 125 assists for 148 points with 111 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +21. In nine AHL playoff games, he has one goal and one assist with six penalty minutes and a -3.

This season, Ahcan has played in 67 games for the Eagles, where he has five goals and 36 assists for 41 points with 20 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +5.

The 2024-25 season is Ahcan’s fifth season in the AHL and second season with the Eagles. He is currently on a two-way NHL/AHL contract with the Colorado Avalanche, which ends after the 2024-25 season.

Dylan Anhorn (2022-24) – Defenseman Dylan Anhorn spent two seasons at St. Cloud State where he captained the team in the 2023-24 season. In 60 games at St. Cloud, Anhorn had 11 goals and 47 assists for 58 points with 46 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +29. Anhorn finished his career as a Husky with 13 multi-point games and had 117 shots on net, including ten games where he had four or more shots and one game where he had six shots. He had 72 blocked shots including 11 games where he had three or more blocked shots. In the 2023-24 season, Anhorn led the Huskies in assists and plus/minus and was second on the team in points.

While at St. Cloud, Anhorn received many honors and awards on top of being named the captain. Anhorn was named an All-NCHC Honorable Mention in the 2022-23 season and was then named to the NCHC First Team in the 2023-24 season. During his tenure at St. Cloud, Anhorn was named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week three times. He was also a Hobey Baker Nominee both seasons at St. Cloud. Anhorn won the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in 2023 with St. Cloud and was also named to the NCAA West Second All-American Team in the 2023-24 season. Anhorn did not play in the Frozen Faceoff in 2023 with the Huskies as a freak off-ice accident led to him having a lower-body injury and being unable to play.

Anhorn is still in his rookie season currently playing in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. He did play in two games with the Moose after completing his collegiate career last season, where he had one assist. This season, Anhorn has played in 46 games with the Moose, where he has three goals and 12 assists for 15 points with 41 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -6.

Dennis Cholowski (2016-17) – Defenseman Dennis Cholowski spent one season at St. Cloud State University before he started his professional career. In that one season, Cholowski played in 36 games, where he had one goal and 11 assists for 12 points with 14 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -9. Cholowski’s lone goal was a powerplay goal, and he finished his time at St. Cloud with 44 shots and 33 blocks.

Cholowski had a bit of a different start to his professional career as he finished the 2016-17 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. But Cholowski spent the 2017-18 season in the WHL before fully starting his professional career at the end of the 2017-18 season. Cholowski was a 2016 first round draft pick by the Detroit Red Wings, going 20th overall.

Since starting his professional career, Cholowski has spent time in the AHL and NHL, playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Charlotte Checkers, and Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL. At the NHL level, he has played with the Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, Seattle Kraken, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils.

Cholowski has played in 241 AHL games, where he has 18 goals and 105 assists for 123 points with 68 penalty minutes and a -46. In 12 AHL playoff games, Cholowski has three assists with two penalty minutes and a -4.

In the NHL, Cholowski has played in 155 games, where he has 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points with 38 penalty minutes and a -51. Cholowski was traded from the New York Islanders to the New Jersey Devils earlier this season. In five games with the Devils, he has yet to register a point or penalty minutes and has a -1. Before joining the Devils, Cholowski played in 33 games with the Islanders, where he had three goals and seven assists for ten points with ten penalty minutes and a +1. He is currently in the NHL, where he has spent most of the 2024-25 season.

Dennis Cholowski is currently on a two-way NHL/AHL contract with the New Jersey Devils and will be up for a new contract at the end of the 2024-25 season. He is in his ninth professional season and sixth season in the NHL.

Grant Cruikshank (2022-23) – Forward Grant Cruikshank only spent one season at St. Cloud State after spending three seasons at Colorado College and then a season at the University of Minnesota. In 41 games with the Huskies, Cruikshank had 23 goals and 15 assists for 38 points with 16 penalty minutes and a +5. Cruikshank had ten multipoint games, adding eight powerplay goals, two shorthanded goals, one empty-netter, and two game-winning goals. He has had 15 blocks and 98 shots, with three games where he had five or more shots.

Cruikshank became the first Husky since the 2001-02 season to score six goals in his first six games played and was a Hobey Baker Nominee. He led the team in goals, powerplay goals, and shorthanded goals and finished tied for third in the nation in goals. Cruikshank was named the NCHC Forward of the Week once and won the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with the Huskies. Cruikshank notched a goal and an assist in the Frozen Faceoff Championship against his former team, the Colorado College Tigers. He also had a goal and an assist against Minnesota State Mankato in the NCAA Regional Semifinals.

After starting his professional career, Cruikshank started in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies and spent some time in the ECHL with the now-defunct Newfoundland Growlers. This season, Cruikshank has split his time between the ECHL and AHL with the South Carolina Stingrays and Hershey Bears, where he is currently playing. In 47 ECHL games, Cruikshank has 27 goals and 29 assists for 56 points with 24 penalty minutes and a +14. Thus far in the AHL, Cruikshank has played in 51 games, where he has six goals and five assists for 11 points with 18 penalty minutes and a +4.

This season with the Hershey Bears, Cruikshank has played in 29 games, where he has five goals and two assists for seven points with 12 penalty minutes and a +2.

The 2024-25 season is Cruikshank’s third professional season and first with the Hershey Bears.

Kevin Gravel (2010-14) – Defenseman Kevin Gravel spent four seasons with the Huskies, where he played in 153 games, registering 13 goals and 36 assists for 49 points with 43 penalty minutes and a +6. In the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, Gravel had 123 blocked shots and 136 shots, with four games where he had five or more shots and two games where he had five or more blocks. He had seven multipoint games in the two seasons as well. Gravel and the Huskies were the NCHC Regular Season Champions in the 2013-14 season.

Gravel was a fifth round pick by the LA Kings in the 2010 draft, going 148th overall. Since starting his professional career at the end of the 2013-14 season, Gravel has split his time between the AHL and NHL. In the NHL, Gravel has played with the LA Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Nashville Predators. In the AHL, he has played for the Manchester Monarchs, Ontario Reign, Bakersfield Condors, Toronto Marlies, Stockton Heat, and Milwaukee Admirals. In 138 NHL games, Gravel has one goal and 14 assists for 15 points with 16 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -9. In 442 AHL games, Gravel has 29 goals and 88 assists for 117 points with 171 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +35. He has played in 76 AHL playoff games, where he has two goals and 22 assists for 24 points with 14 penalty minutes and a +6. Gravel won the AHL Calder Cup with the Manchester Monarchs in the 2014-15 season

This season, Gravel has played in 57 games with the Admirals, where he has five goals and 15 assists for 20 points with 29 penalty minutes and a -2.

The 2024-25 season is Gravel’s 12th professional season and third season with the Milwaukee Admirals. Gravel is currently on a two-way NHL/AHL contract with the Nashville Predators, which ends after the 2025-26 season.

Jack Peart (2021-24) – Defenseman Jack Peart spent three seasons at St. Cloud State playing in 109 games, where he had eight goals and 47 assists for 55 points with 66 penalty minutes and a +15. Peart ended his collegiate career after his junior season to start his professional career in the AHL with the Iowa Wild. Peart’s time as a Husky ended with 142 shots, 111 blocks, and nine multipoint games.

Before joining St. Cloud State, Peart was named the 2021 Minnesota Mr. Hockey. He was named NCHC Rookie of the Week during his rookie season, 2021-22. In the 2022-23 season, Peart was named to the All-NCHC Second Team, NCHC Frozen Faceoff ALL-Tournament Team, was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week once, and was an NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year Finalist. Peart had a goal in the Huskies 4-0 win over the University of Minnesota-Mankato in the NCAA Regionals semi-finals. Peart and the Huskies were the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Champions, and Peart also won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2023 World Juniors. In the 2023-24 season, Peart was named to the All-NCHC Second Team and had two assists in the Huskies NCHC quarterfinal series against Western Michigan University.

Peart was a second round draft pick by the Minnesota Wild in the 2021 draft, going 54th overall. He has since started his professional career, where he has played in 57 games with the Iowa Wild. Peart has two goals and four assists for six points with 33 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of 0. This season, Peart has played in 48 games, where he has one goal and three assists for four points with 31 penalty minutes and a zero plus/minus.

Jack Peart is currently on a two-way NHL/AHL contract with the Minnesota Wild. His contract is his entry-level contract and ends after the 2026-27 season.

Ethan Prow (2012-16) – Defenseman Ethan Prow spent four seasons as a Husky with St. Cloud State. In 149 games, he had 19 goals and 80 assists for 99 points with 24 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +51. Prow captained the Huskies in the 2015-16 season. He ended his career with 18 multipoint games, 11 powerplay goals, and two game-winning goals. He had 204 blocks with three games where he had five or more blocks, including seven blocks on March 19, 2016, against the University of Minnesota Duluth. Prow had 174 shots, with three games where he had five or more shots in three games, including seven shots on January 1, 2016, against Arizona State University.

In the 2013-14 season, Prow was named the NCHC Player of the Week twice and was the NCHC Regular Season Champions with the Huskies. In the 2014-15 season, Prow was named to the NCAA West Region All-Tournament Team and was named NCHC Defensive Player of the week twice.

In the 2015-16 season, Prow was named the NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year, NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year, and the NCHC Player of the Year. He was named to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament Team, All-NCHC First Team, and Lowe’s Senior CLASS All-American First Team. He was also a Top-10 Finalist for the Hobey Baker, and was the only defenseman in the top ten. The Hobey was eventually won by NHLer Jimmy Vesey. Prow and the Huskies also won the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in the 2015-16 season.

Since going pro, Prow has spent time in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL. Prow has played with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Rochester Americans in the AHL, and the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL. Prow also spent the 2020-21 season overseas playing in Germany.

In four ECHL games, Prow had two assists and a -4. In four NHL games, Prow had one goal and a -1. In 434 AHL games, he has 53 goals and 179 assists for 232 points with 124 penalty minutes and a +15. In 36 AHL playoff games, Prow has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points with six penalty minutes and a -5.

This season, Prow has played in 21 games with the Rochester Americans, where he has one goal and six assists for seven points with eight penalty minutes and a -7. Prow has been an alternate captain all four seasons with the Americans, including the 2024-25 season.

The 2024-25 season is Prow’s ninth season in North America and his fourth season with the Rochester Americans in the AHL.

Garrett Roe (2007-11) – Forward Garrett Roe spent four seasons at St. Cloud, where he played in 156 games. Roe ended his collegiate career with 65 goals and 113 assists for 178 points with 240 penalty minutes and a +5.

In the 2007-08 season, Roe was named to the All-WCHA Rookie Team and the All-WCHA Second Team. He was named to the All-WCHA third team in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. Roe was also an alternate captain for the Huskies in the 2010-11 season.

Roe was a 2008 seventh-round draft pick for the LA Kings, where he went 183rd overall. After completing his collegiate season, Roe spent two seasons in the AHL with the Adirondack Phantoms before spending ten seasons overseas playing in Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. Roe has since come back to the US and has spent the past two seasons in the AHL with the Hershey Bears. In 210 AHL games, Roe has 30 goals and 74 assists for 104 points with 119 penalty minutes and a +23. In 12 AHL playoff games, he had six goals and four assists for ten points with two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +5. Roe won the AHL Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in the 2023-24 season as the Bears became Back-to-Back Champions.

This season, Roe has played in 33 games, where he has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points with 12 penalty minutes and a +15.

The 2024-25 season is Roe’s fourth AHL season and second with the Hershey Bears.

Jimmy Schuldt (2015-19)- Defenseman Jimmy Schuldt spent four seasons at St. Cloud State playing in 156 games where he had 38 goals and 80 assists for 118 points. He had 106 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +70.

When his time with the Huskies came to an end, Schuldt had 355 shots on net with 20 games where he had five or more shots, including three games where he had seven shots. Those games were March 4, 2016, against Colorado College, February 17, 2018, against Western Michigan University, and March 11, 2018, against Miami University (Ohio). Schuldt had 344 blocks during his time as a Husky, with 17 games where he had five or more blocks, with his largest total being eight blocks in one game on December 9, 2017, against the University of North Dakota. Schuldt had 29 multipoint games, with 13 coming in his junior season. He finished his career with 19 powerplay goals, two shorthanded goals, three empty-netters, five game winning goals, and one game-tying goal.

In his freshman season, Schuldt had 95 blocks and a +31, leading the Huskies in plus/minus and blocks that season. He led the team in blocks in his sophomore and senior seasons with 88 as a sophomore and 77 as a senior. In his junior season, he led the team in assists with 28 and powerplay goals with eight.

In the 2015-16 season, Schuldt was named to the All-NCHC Rookie Team and All-CHN Rookie Team. Schuldt and the Huskies won the NCHC Frozen Faceoff for the first time as well. In the 2016-17 season, Schuldt received an All-NCHC Honorable Mention and the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Award.

Jimmy Schuldt received many accolades in his junior and senior seasons. In the 2017-18 season, he was named the NCHC Defensive Player of the Week four times, NCHC Player of the Month for October 2017, and the D1 Player of the Month for October 2017. He was named to the AHCA All-American West, All-USCHO, All-CHN, and All-NCHC First Teams. He received the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Award and was named a Top-10 Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, being the only defenseman in the top ten. The Hobey was eventually won by Adam Gaudette. Schuldt and the Huskies were the NCHC Regular Season Champions.

In the 2018-19 season, Schuldt’s senior season, he was named the NCHC Player of the Year, NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year, and was named the NCHC Defensive Player of the Week once. He was named to the All-NCHC First Team, the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament Team, and the Lowe’s Senior CLASS All-American Second Team. Schuldt won the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Award for a second consecutive season, was a semi-finalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award, and was a Hat Trick Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, eventually won by NHL star defenseman Cale Makar. Schuldt and the Huskies were the NCHC Regular Season Champions for the second time in a row. Schuldt captained the team in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, becoming the first Husky to wear the “C” in three seasons.

Since finishing his time at St. Cloud, Schuldt has spent time in the AHL and a little in the NHL. In the NHL, Schuldt has played with the Vegas Golden Knights and San Jose Sharks, playing in a total of seven games where he has one assist and a -2.

In the AHL, Schuldt has played with the Chicago Wolves, Henderson Silver Knights, Rochester Americans, Coachella Valley Firebirds, and San Jose Barracuda, where he is the captain of the Barracuda. In 349 AHL games, Schuldt has 36 goals and 92 assists for 128 points with 220 penalty minutes and a +69. He has played in 59 AHL playoff games, where he has nine goals and ten assists for 19 points with 16 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +22. In the 2022-23 season, Schuldt had the most playoff goals in the AHL with five.

This season, Schuldt has played in 59 games with the Barracuda, where he has six goals and 14 assists for 20 points with 32 penalty minutes and a +21.

Jimmy Schuldt is currently on a two-way contract with the San Jose Sharks that ends after the 2024-25 season.
