St. Louis Blues Re-Sign Three Springfield Thunderbirds

The St. Louis Blues this morning brings back three players who spent the majority of the last season with their AHL affiliate the Springfield Thunderbirds. They first re-signed Matt Luff, then re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Hunter Skinner. The Blues also re-signed goalie Vadim Zherenko to a one-year two-way contract. All three contracts are a $775K salary in the NHL, Skinner and Zherenko carry a $125K minor league salary while Luff has a $400K minor league salary.

Matt Luff

Luff in 50 games this season had 45 points on 18 goals and 27 assists. He was a minus-eight with 42 penalty minutes, four power-play goals, and a game-winning goal. In three playoff games, he scored a goal, which was a game-winner. This past season was his first season with Springfield after spending time with the Ontario Reign, Milwaukee Admirals, Grand Rapids Griffins, and Charlotte Checkers. In 279 games he has 212 points on 87 goals and 125 assists. He is a minus-two with 176 penalty minutes, 19 power-play goals, three shorthanded goals, and nine game-winning goals. In 12 playoff games, he has three points on two goals and an assist. He is a minus-four with six penalty minutes and two game-winning goals. In 106 career NHL games, he has 27 points on 15 goals and 12 assists. He’s a -12 with 20 penalty minutes and a power-play goal.

Hunter Skinner

Skinner in 71 games this season had 23 points on eight goals and 15 assists. He was a plus-two with 98 penalty minutes, and he had a one-game winning goal. In three playoff games, he was held pointless. This was his third season with the Thunderbirds. In 136 games, he has 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. He is a minus-one with 207 penalty minutes and a game-winning goal. Skinner spent his first three seasons with the Hartford Wolf Pack, playing in 67 games. He had 17 points on five goals and 12 assists. He was a minus-two with 42 penalty minutes and a game-winning goal. In 203 career AHL games, he has 56 points on 16 goals and 40 assists. He is a minus-three with 249 penalty minutes and two game-winning goals.

Vadim Zherenko

Zherenko in 32 games this season went 12-17-3 with a 3.44 goals-against average, a .897 save percentage, and a shutout. This past season was his third with the Thunderbirds. In 86 games he is 34-40-7 with a 3.37 goals-against average, a .904 save percentage, and two shutouts.
