Stars Blown Out By Lightning 4-0

The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning met again for the second game of the home-and-home series on Monday. But this time, the Stars got shutout 4-0 by the Lightning at Amalie Arena. Dallas fell to 14-6-3, while Tampa Bay improved to 11-10-5.

Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 25 shots he faced en route to his first shutout of the season.

The Stars’ starting lineup featured Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, Ryan Suter, and Jake Oettinger. Oettinger made 19 saves in a losing effort.

The Lightning struck first to open the first-period scoring. Nikita Kucherov fired a wrist shot into the Stars’ net for a 1-0 lead at 7:47 of the first. Mikhail Sergachev and Steven Stamkos collected the assists on Kucherov’s 16th of the season.

The Lightning doubled their lead. Anthony Cirelli sent a wrist shot past Jake Oettinger to make it a 2-0 game at 18:21 of the first period. Erik Cernak and Nikita Kucherov collected the assists on Cirelli’s fourth of the season.

The Stars trailed the Lightning 2-0 at the end of the first period. Tampa Bay outshot Dallas 11-10 after 20 minutes.

The Stars tried to solve Andrei Vasilevskiy in the second period but couldn’t get pucks into the Lightning’s net. Neither team added to their respective scores.

The Stars continued to trail the Lightning, 2-0, at the end of the second period. Dallas outshot Tampa Bay 20-15 after 40 minutes.

The Lightning tripled their lead early in the third period. Luke Glendening — a former Stars center — sent home a backhand shot to increase the Lightning’s lead to 3-0 at 3:05 of the third. Glendening’s unassisted goal was his fourth of the season. Glendening signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract with the Lightning as a free agent on July 1, 2023.

The Lightning extended their lead. Anthony Cirelli scored on a backhand shot to give the Lightning a 4-0 lead at 12:12 of the third. Cirelli’s unassisted goal was his fifth of the season and second of the game.

The Stars were shut out by the Lightning 4-0 at the end of regulation. Dallas outshot Tampa Bay 25-23 after a full 60 minutes.
