Stars Double Up Red Wings 6-3

The Dallas Stars continued the homestand with a home game against the Detroit Red Wings. The Stars beat the Red Wings 6-3 at the American Airlines Center. Dallas improved to 16-8-3, while Detroit fell to 14-9-4.

The Stars’ starting lineup featured Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, Ryan Suter, and Jake Oettinger. Oettinger made 27 saves for a win. Meanwhile, Red Wings goaltender James Reimer made 29 saves in a losing effort.

The Red Wings drew first blood, but the Stars responded with two consecutive goals in the first period.

Daniel Sprong fired a wrist shot into the Stars’ net for a 1-0 lead at 5:20. Robby Fabbri and Christian Fischer collected the assists on Sprong’s seventh of the season.

Miro Heiskanen answered with a wrist shot into the Red Wings’ net to tie the game 1-1 at 13:35. Jason Robertson and Jamie Benn collected the assists on Heiskanen’s second of the season.

Esa Lindell scored a snap shot goal to put the Stars up 2-1 at 19:59. Sam Steel and Jani Hakanpää collected the assists on Lindell’s second of the season.

The Stars led the Red Wings 2-1 at the end of the first period. Detroit outshot Dallas 9-8 after 20 minutes.

The Stars shined for most of the second period.

Jason Robertson blasted a wrist shot into the Red Wings’ net to make it a 3-1 game at 11:16. Esa Lindell and Roope Hintz collected the assists on Robertson’s ninth of the season.

Matt Duchene tipped in a goal to extend the Stars’ lead to 4-1 at 13:30. Joel Hanley and Tyler Seguin collected the assists on Duchene’s seventh of the season.

Jonatan Berggren scored on a wrist shot to cut the Stars’ lead in half 4-2 at 13:52. Shayne Gostisbehere and Olli Maatta collected the assists on Berggren’s first of the season.

The Stars carried a 4-2 lead over the Red Wings at the end of the second period. Dallas outshot Detroit 20-19 after 40 minutes.

The third period was a back-and-forth affair.

Joe Veleno scored a wrist shot power-play goal to make it a one-goal game, 4-3, at 13:21. Alex DeBrincat and Shayne Gostisbehere collected the assists on Veleno’s seventh of the season.

Joe Pavelski tipped in a power-play goal to extend the Stars’ lead to 5-3 at 13:51. Roope Hintz and Miro Heiskanen collected the assists on Pavelski’s 12th of the season.

Miro Heiskanen added an empty-net goal to expand the Stars’ lead to 6-3 at 19:18.

The Stars beat the Red Wings 6-3 at the end of regulation. Dallas outshot Detroit 35-30 after a full 60 minutes.
