Stars Hold off Oilers 4-3 in Edmonton

The Dallas Stars continued the three-game Canadian road trip with a Thursday night game against the Edmonton Oilers. The Stars held off the Oilers for a 4-3 win at Rogers Arena. Dallas improved to 7-1-1, while Edmonton fell to 2-6-1. Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner made 23 saves in a losing effort.

The Stars’ starting lineup featured Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, Ryan Suter, and Scott Wedgewood. Wedgewood made a whopping 46 saves for a victory.

The Stars struck first in Edmonton, Alberta, in Western Canada. Matt Duchene fired a fast-paced snap shot to give the Stars a 1-0 lead at 8:08 of the first period. Mason Marchment and Esa Lindell collected the assists on Duchene’s second of the season.

The Stars’ lead didn’t last very long, as the Oilers tied the game late in the first. Evander Kane fired a snap shot to tie the game 1-1 at the 17-minute mark. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins collected the lone assist on Kane’s third of the season.

The game was tied at one apiece after 20 minutes. Edmonton outshot Dallas 13-9.

The Stars took the lead early in the second period. Joe Pavelski fired a snapshot to help the Stars to a 2-1 lead at 3:25. Roope Hintz and Miro Heiskanen collected the assists on Pavelski’s fourth of the season.

The Stars capitalized on the man advantage to extend the lead late in the second period. Roope Hintz scored a tip-in goal on the power play for a 3-1 lead at 16:06. Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn collected the assists on Hintz’s fourth of the season.

The Stars led the Oilers 3-1 after 40 minutes. Edmonton outshot Dallas 24-18.

Roope Hintz continued his success to start the third period. Hintz fired a snapshot to expand the Stars’ lead to 4-1 at 2:37. Joe Pavelski and Jason Robertson collected the assists on Hintz’s fifth of the season and second of the game.

The Oilers cut the Stars’ lead in half midway through the third period. Sam Gagner scored a goal off a poke check to make it a two-goal game, 4-2, at 10:35. Cody Ceci and Brett Kulak collected the assists on Gagner’s first of the season.

The Oilers made it a one-goal game a little over three minutes later. Sam Gagner sent home a slick backhand shot to cut the Stars’ lead to 4-3 at 13:36. Evander Kane collected the lone assist on Gagner’s second of the season and second of the game.

The Stars held on for a 4-3 win over the Oilers. Edmonton outshot Dallas 50-27 after a full 60 minutes.
