After a hot 2-0 start to the season, the Leafs have lost two games and now sit at a 2-2 record heading into their road matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The last time the Leafs played the Lightning, it was the Leafs snapping a long playoff series win drought off of an overtime goal by John Tavares. Tonight the Leafs will look to end their losing streak and keep their record above .500 while they hope to improve their defensive play.
Leafs Projected Lineup
Three Things to Look Out For
Domi
Max Domi’s start with the Leafs so far has left much to be desired. Domi needs to provide value offensively and I’m sure that will come as the chemistry comes, but he finds himself on the third line with Kampf and Jarnkrok tonight. Look for Domi to play well offensively and contribute to the second powerplay unit while trying to not give up much defensively.
Holmberg
Last season at the trade deadline, the new additions pushed Holmberg out of the lineup. Holmberg had been playing well and contributed to the team, but found himself finishing his season with the Marlies. With Minten’s strong camp, he started the season in the Marlies this year too, but has found himself in tonight’s lineup with Minten being a healthy scratch. Not only does this extend Minten’s 9 games (or more if he proves himself) stay with the Leafs, but it also gives a deserving player a shot in the Leafs lineup. Keep an eye on Holmberg tonight as he looks to show why he belongs in the NHL.
Rielly
Morgan Rielly had a killer playoff this past season and has started this season strong, although it hasn’t translated much on the scoresheet. Rielly is at his best when he’s playing with a consistent partner and being back with Brodie has surely helped his game. They were the best pairing on the ice last game and will look to continue their strong play against the big guns on the Lightning.
Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 PM EST on Sportsnet and CBC!
