An electric third-period performance for Sweden lifted them to a 5-2 win against Germany. 4,207 fans were in attendance to watch the opening game of this annual international tournament.
This was an intense matchup between these two teams, and tensions were high to start the game when Germany’s Nicola Hadraschek landed a hit on Hanna Thuvik in the first minute. A fast and physical 19 minutes followed this opener. Thuvik had the best answer back for this play, the opening goal of the tournament. Sweden began the game with two unanswered goals from Thuvik and Mira Hallin.
“Of course, it feels good [to score the first goal],” “But my linemates did a really good job working it in front of the net, and I just shot it. So, I have a lot to thank them for.”

Luisa Welcke got the puck in Germany’s offensive zone to wrist one past Swedish goaltender Emma Soderberg, to cut their lead to one goal.
Sweden was fired up to start the third period and scored two quick goals. Linnea Johansson found Anna Kjellbin on the feed, allowing Kjellbin to net her first of the tournament. Less than a minute later, Thea Johansson took her shot on net, which ultimately deflected off Sandra Abstreiter’s skate into the back of the net to make this a 4-1 game.
Germany managed to get one more goal in the third period from Emily Nix on a power play, but alas, Sweden took this one with a final score of 5-2, as Hanna Olsson scored an empty net goal with 67 seconds left in the game.
