The Utica Comets have recalled forward Tag Bertuzzi from the Adirondack Thunder. Bertuzzi, 23, has put up a goal and an assist in three games with the Thunder this season after being acquired from the Reading Royals in a trade that sent forward Travis Broughman and goaltender Vinnie Purpura to Reading. This doesn’t come as a shock as the Comets could use a spark in their lineup as they are 0-7 to start this season. Utica is currently in 30th in the league with 1.86 goals per game as the addition of Bertuzzi will hopefully help those numbers. For the Thunder, this is a huge loss as they lose a top-six forward who was expected to be a big piece for Adirondack heading into the 2024-25 season. Tag is the son of former NHLer Todd Bertuzzi.
Bertuzzi is entering his third year in the ECHL, where he’s put up 42 goals and 49 assists for 91 points in 124 games with the Tulsa Oilers, Reading Royals, and Adirondack Thunder. He’s also played in 10 career AHL games, where he’s put up one assist while spending time with the Charlotte Checkers, Hartford Wolfpack, and Belleville Senators. Before going pro, he spent three years in the OHL with the Guelph Storm, Hamilton Bulldogs, and Flint Firebirds, putting up 53 goals and 59 assists for 112 points in 191 games. He also spent the 2020-21 season in Slovakia, where he put up seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 22 games.
