The Detroit Red Wings took on the Boston Bruins today in a matinee matchup at the TD Garden in Boston, and they handed the Bruins their second loss in regulation, both of which came at the hands of the Red Wings with a 5-2 win. The win was also Detroit’s second straight win.
Take advantage of Power Play
The Red Wings had two power-play goals today. It started in the first when the scoring started on a J.T. Compher goal, and then when it was a one-score game, Dylan Larkin added another power-play goal. The Red Wings ended the game going 2/6 on the man advantage.
Fabbri healthy changes Offense
When Robby Fabbri played this year, the Red Wings were 3-3-1, but in those games, they scored three goals or more in all but one, which was last Friday’s loss to Toronto in Sweden. The Red Wings are 3-1-0 when Fabbri records a point this year.
Gostisbehere continues to Impress
I’ve said during almost every Red Wings game this season I love the way Shayne Gostisbehere plays, and it gels with what this team needs today; he added two points to his season total with two assists, both of which came in the power play goals. He has 14 points in 18 games, coming on four goals and ten assists; on the power play, he has ten points on two goals and eight assists.
No Walman No Problem
Last Friday, the Red Wings lost Jake Walman, and the defense looked completely lost in the third period, leading to three Toronto goals. Today, the Red Wings were without Walman, and they looked like a different team defensively from that game to today.
Husso Rested
A rested Ville Husso looks like a completely different goalie. Today, he stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the win. Having Husso rested and Alex Lyon playing like he has in the first two starts, the Red Wings could have something much like the Bruins, where they could have a 1A and 1B goalie situation happening.
Next Up:
The Red Wings will return to the ice on Sunday for another matinee when they return home to take on the Minnesota Wild with puck drop set for 1:00 PM.
