Takeaways From Detroit Red Wings Win Over New Jersey

Red Wings Takeaways vs. Devils

The Detroit Red Wings returned to the ice tonight following their trip to Sweden, where they got one point out of a possible four; tonight, they took on the New Jersey Devils, got a much-needed win 4-0, and picked up a crucial two points.

Couldn’t ask for a better start

After five days off traveling back from Sweden, it took a little bit, but the Red Wings turned in their best first period of the season as they scored three goals in the first period, with the first two goals coming within 20 seconds and all three took a minute and 12 seconds. Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, and Robby Fabbri had the goals.

Limited Penalties

The Devils, coming into tonight, had the best power play in all of hockey, and it took late into the second period for the Red Wings to head to the box for the first time; the Red Wings penalty kill ended up killing that one, which was a massive win for the team.  In the third, the Red Wings had another penalty on a David Perron tripping penalty, but they again held the Devils.

Lyon Impressed Again

Alex Lyon made his Red Wings debut on Friday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he ended up taking a loss 3-2, but he looked great and suffered greatly when the Red Wings lost Jake Walman. Tonight, he got another shot and answered the call with another great start, and he got his first win with the Red Wings, which was shutout, stopping all 16 New Jersey shots.

Raymond Red Hot

Lucas Raymond scored the first goal of the night, continuing his recent hot stretch, scoring a goal in each of his last four games; with the goal tonight, he now has eight on the year, a clear bounce back from last season.

11-7 Works

The Red Wings went with 11 forwards and seven defensemen tonight; when they did that, they were undefeated, including tonight. Klim Kostin, unfortunately, was the odd man out tonight, but it led to another two points for Detroit.

Next Up:

The Detroit Red Wings return to the ice on Friday when they hit the road for Boston to take on the NHL-leading Boston Bruins with a matinee puck drop at 1:00 PM.
