TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Lightning will be hosting the annual NHL Prospect Tournament in Tampa Bay later this week on Sept. 12-15. This event will take place at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel and will host the Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Nashville Predators, and the Stanley Cup Champion team, the Florida Panthers.
Schedule
- Friday, Sept. 12 Carolina Hurricanes vs. Florida Panthers 2 p.m., Nashville Predators vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 5 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 13 Nashville Predators vs. Carolina Hurricanes 2 p.m., Florida Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 5 p.m.
- Monday, Sept. 15 Florida Panthers vs. Nashville Predators 12 p.m., Carolina Hurricanes vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 3 p.m.
There are some returning faces from last season for the Lightning, including Dylan Duke, who made his NHL-debut during last season with the Bolts and recorded a goal from that tenure. All four teams will play each other once during the four-day tournament. Any player who has NHL experience and/or on an entry-level gig, provided they are under 24 years of age, will be eligible to compete in this tournament. Faces from the American Hockey League (AHL), ECHL, and junior leagues will be seen during this event, with most participants dialing in for a potential NHL call-up for this upcoming season.
Now the rules are very simple: teams will play three 20-minute periods, standard to that of the NHL; teams will dress 18 players and two goaltenders; if games go into overtime due to a regulation tie, they will play 3-on-3 for five minutes; and regardless of a tied score or not, all games will be subject to a five-player shootout after the game has concluded.
The Bolts will have six 2025 draft picks participating in this event, including: F. Ethan Czata (2nd-round pick), F. Aiden Foster (4th-round), D. Everett Baldwin (5th-round), G. Caleb Heil (7th-round), D. Grant Spada (7th-round) and F. Marco Mignosa (7th-round).
Furthermore, highly watched prospect Sam O’Reilly will also be joining this Bolts’ roster. The 19-year-old was recently acquired from the Edmonton Oilers for folded BIG10 star Isaac Howard. It’ll be interesting to see what he produces during this event, as he has a lot of eyes on him from management and the coaching staff. He’s a right-handed shooter, which boosts his looks even more, and is a great two-way forward who isn’t too tall nor too light at just 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Does that image ring a bell to Lightning fans? Well, it should. Similar stature and play style of Anthony Cirelli and Steven Stamkos, this young man could bring something the Bolts have been looking for ever since they let go of their long-time captain — Stamkos.
Now, without further ado, here’s the full list of players making the roster and who will be competing here in Tampa later this week.
