Thomas Greiss Announces Retirement From NHL

Thomas Greiss has announced that he is hanging up the skates after a 14-year career in the NHL. Greiss was a third-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2004 but didn’t get his start in the NHL until the 2007-08 season, where he made three appearances for the San Jose Sharks but would spend all the following season in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks. The German goaltender would start to make a name for himself in the 2015-16 season when he made 41 appearances with the Islanders putting up a record of 26-18-5 with a 2.69 GAA, along with a shutout the following season; he would make an appearance in a career-high 51 games. During the 2018-19 season, Greiss, along with Robin Lehner, would take home the William M. Jennings Trophy, he would have one more solid season with the Islanders, and then once he moved on from the Islanders, his career would go downhill. Greiss would finish his career with a 162-130-37 record with a 2.77 GAA, .911 SV%, and 16 shutouts; he would post a 7-8 record in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He would spend time with the San Jose Sharks, Phoenix Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, and St.Louis Blues.
